Help for Older Adults
As we age, life brings some of the most significant stressors we will ever face. Patients over the age of 65 come to us looking for help in managing a wide range of concerns. Several of our therapists are in-network Medicare providers and so, generally speaking, Medicare patients will pay nothing out of pocket!
Below are some of the issues that bring older adults into therapy:
-Difficulties Adjusting to Retirement
-Grief and loss following the death of a loved one
-Stress related to being a caretaker of others
-Desire to improve relationships with loved ones
-Realization of a lack of fulfillment
-Anxiety and depression related to health concerns or crisis
-Pain management
-Insomnia (CBT for Insomnia aka CBTi)
-Adjusting to the isolation caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic
No other group presents a more varied range of concerns than the older adults who seek out treatment from our therapists. It is our hope to help our older patients cope with the stressors of aging, to discover what makes them happy and to help them fulfill their life’s goals and dreams.
Therapy Is More Than A Conversation
Some critics of psychotherapy have likened the role of the therapist to a friend who is paid to sit and chit chat with clients about their lives or just listen while people complain. And while some therapists do perhaps provide little more than emotional support, the role of the Cognitive Behavior Therapist is different. CBT involves providing a great deal of education, helping clients to remember and use that education, teaching concrete skills, and tracking progress to confirm that patients are benefitting. It is our hope that by reviewing the information provided on this website, that anyone who is interested in our services, or in any therapist's services for that matter, is able to appreciate the difference it makes to work with well-trained Cognitive Behavior Therapists.
