Mrs. Nancy Cano
Mrs. Nancy Cano is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and an educational advocate for school aged children and adolescents. She holds a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in school social work and child welfare. Mrs. Cano is certified in the use of the Managing and Adapting Practices (MAP) system developed by UCLA clinicians. MAP is widely considered to be the single best resource for therapy interventions for children and adolescents.
Nancy treats children, adolescents, adults and their families and has diagnosed and treated a wide range of mental health disorders, including major depression, generalized anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. She is nationally certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT).
Although Nancy is skilled in treating patients of all ages, she was recruited to Belmont Psych for her specialization and expertise in working with children and adolescents in the education system. She is a skilled advocate for children in the Gifted and Talented Education system (GATE), and an ally to parents of children with learning differences and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Nancy strives to support clients in developing more adaptive ways of coping with stressors and to empower clients to utilize their strengths to overcome challenges. She is able to tailor her approach to accommodate individuals of all ages and uses creative interventions to make therapy understandable and effective for even the youngest participants. Nancy believes that therapy is a collaborative process. She guides her clients towards increasing their self-awareness, decreasing negative symptoms and magnifying their personal strengths. Her goal is to help children, adolescents and adults reach their highest potential and help families live happier lives together.
